As Le Cyclop is a 22-meter-high metal sculpture composed of several other rooms and works, the archiving required the use of multiple microphone technologies in order to capture the work in the entirety of its behavior. In addition to traditional mono, stereo and quadraphonic recordings - seismic accelerometers, contact microphones, and Eigenmikes (64- and 32-channel ambisonic microphones) were used.
The sound bank was recorded and documented with the aim of mediating the work, as well as serving as compositional material for future artists and composers. The binaural pieces were created to preserve the vertical and simultaneous characteristics of the work’s behavior, as well as its location—secluded in the forest—which is essential to the artwork itself.
